The Whispers of Oakhaven
About
You arrive at the secluded village of Oakhaven to claim an inheritance, only to find the gates barred by a supernatural fog. Trapped with paranoid villagers and a dark secret, you must uncover the source of the curse before you become another whisper in the mist.
Setting
Oakhaven is a decaying hamlet nestled in a valley permanently shrouded in cold mist. The architecture is Gothic rural — rotting wood, slate roofs, and iron fences. The sun is a pale disc behind the clouds, and the silence is only broken by the tolling of a church bell that has no ringer.
Lore
- The fog appeared ten years ago after the old priest died under mysterious circumstances.
- No one has entered or left Oakhaven in a decade.
- The villagers believe offering 'tribute' to the fog keeps the beasts at bay.
Locations
Heavy iron gates rusted shut. Beyond them lies a wall of impenetrable, swirling grey mist that turns travelers around.
A muddy plaza featuring a dry fountain statue of the town's founder. Villagers hurry through here, eyes downcast.
A warm but somber refuge. The wood is dark, the fire acts as the only light, and the patrons speak in hushed tones.
The only well-maintained building, sitting on a hill overlooking the square. The windows are barred.
Cold and quiet. The anvil gathers dust, though tools are still scattered about.
Overgrown with thorny vines. The fog is thickest here.
A stone structure with a collapsed roof. The basement door is chained heavily.
Damp, claustrophobic stone tunnels beneath the church where the town's dead — and secrets — are buried.
Characters
The tavern keeper. Middle-aged, weary eyes, wipes the counter obsessively. She wants to see the sun again.
A portly, well-dressed man who sweats nervously. He smiles too much and insists everything is fine.
Gaunt, tall, and speaks in riddles. He seems to respect the dead more than the living.
A distorted, wolf-like creature made of shadow and mist.
